Usually when I browse beauty magazines, I look wistfully at the magical products, knowing that I would never splurge on them, no matter how amazing they make me look.
But a few months ago, I was flipping through a magazine (I don’t remember which one… Glamour? Cosmo?) and found the Goody Spin Pins.
Let me give you some background. My hair is long. I mean really long. And thick. Trying to put my hair in a bun has always required a small army of bobby pins and several rubber bands.
I figured it was too good to be true when the magazine promised that two coils the size of my pinky finger could hold my mass of hair in place. But for less than $5, I thought “Why not?”

I tell you what, that’s the best money I’ve ever spent. The pins are strong enough to hold my hair up singlehandedly through the whole day and even during my workouts. Some of my friends with thinner hair have tried them, and they love them too.
Here’s how to use the Spin Pins:
If you have long hair and want a quick and simple way to get an elegant up-do, you should definitely give the Goody Spin Pins a try.
Here’s how to use the Spin Pins:
- Gather your hair in a low ponytail (you can use a ponytail holder if you want, but you don’t have to).
- Twist the tail of the ponytail around itself into a bun and hold it with one hand.
- With your other hand, twist one pin into your bun from the bottom, twisting like a corkscrew. Take the other pin and screw it into the bun from the top (try to avoid crossing them over each other). You shouldn't be able to see either of them when you're finished, and your hair will be in a sleek low bun.
