Erin Wooddell
For the past three months, when I check out my FollowShows app, it’s looked like this:
Isn't that depressing?
Luckily, all that changes this week! Tonight, New Girl and The Mindy Project return, whetting our appetite for fall television.
These funny leading ladies are the perfect way to kick off premieres, and I--for one--can't wait to see how their new seasons begin. In May, Jess and Nick called it quits while Mindy and Danny finally got together. Both finales left me wondering whether or not these decisions would stick, and tonight we'll finally have our answers!

Fall TV Overhaul
Over the past several weeks, I've had to completely revamp the TV shows in my FollowShows app, removing some I just can’t commit to anymore, and adding new shows that seem promising.
Cuts
Sadly, I think I’ve reached the point in my life where I need to sever my ties with a lot of The CW’s shows. Last year I watched Vampire Diaries as always, tried The Originals and even stuck with Reign until the May finale. Per usual for CW shows, these were jam-packed with drama and plot twists, fulfilling their purpose of providing entertainment. But as the seasons progressed, my interest waned. I understand drama is needed in these shows, but sometimes there would be so much drama in a one-hour episode, I'd be left with whiplash as my mind reeled to catch up with it all.
With the birth of the hybrid baby and the historical inaccuracy of Mary Queen of Scots’ life and love, I decided that I needed to quit The Originals and Reign. Enjoying the setting of New Orleans and the costumes of 16th Century France just aren't enough to keep me invested.
Vampire Diaries was a show I thought I’d watch until it left the air, but each season the threats get more and more strange. Now that Damon is going to be stuck in some other world, I’m not sure it’ll be worth watching. (A whole season with limited Ian Somerhalder? No thanks.) I may check out the premiere episode, but from the teasers I've read about Elena's impending drug use, I think I may have finally outgrown this show.

Additions
Over the summer, with the help of Hulu Plus and Netflix, I dove headfirst into Scandal and Nashville.
I know, I know—I’m late to the party with both of those.
Scandal was my first binge adventure of the summer, and I finished all three seasons in seven days. Yes, feel free to be amazed. I mean business when I binge watch. (Last winter, I watched the entire first season of House of Cards from 8 p.m. Friday to 2 p.m. Sunday.) It was an intense week getting wrapped up in Olivia Pope’s world; so intense that I started having incredibly elaborate dreams about the plot and characters. Ever since finishing, I’ve been counting down to the new fall season, because I can’t wait to see what happens next!
As a new resident of Tennessee, I felt like Nashville was a show I simply had to watch. I had so much fun visiting Nashville in the spring to see the one-and-only Nickel Creek, that I figured the show would be a perfect way to get ideas for my next trip up north. The show didn’t disappoint. It provided catchy songs for new playlists, hunks to drool over, drama to get caught up in and a glimpse into how the musical world works (well, the fictional musical world).

In addition to these two older shows, I’m going to check out Madam Secretary, Forever, Gotham (Ben McKenzie, anyone?), Marry Me, State of Affairs and How to Get Away with Murder. It’s always fun to try out new shows in the hype of all the season premieres and determine which ones are worth following. (Can't help but wonder if How to Get Away with Murder will be another Shonda Rhimes hit. Truth be told, I’m mostly watching because Dean from Harry Potter will be in it!)
For Keeps
Favorites I'll still be watching this season include: Modern Family, Big Bang Theory, The Good Wife, Grey's Anatomy and Elementary.
