Friday is my final day at my job; the end of my 2 years, 10 months and 28 days in this area. And I couldn't be more excited.
The last time I felt this enthusiastic about a move, I was 12 years old. My dad was retiring from the military, we were moving back to West Virginia and my family was finally getting a puppy—something I'd dreamed about my whole life. I was so ready for the new adventure.
I've always liked change, but ever since then, each move has been more stressful than the last; finding a new place to move every year of college, heading to North Carolina for my first job, moving here, then moving into my tiny room-for-rent. The stress probably stems from the fact that I'm older and therefore taxed with more responsibility than being a preteen, moving with her family. All of a sudden I had to make the checklists, do the packing and make sure everything was taken care of before making each move.
This time, the moving stress hasn't found me. Packing has been relatively easy, and instead of feeling overwhelmed with tasks on my to-do list, I feel overwhelmed with excitement. I feel like I could just burst out of my skin, that's how ready I am for Friday.
In that spirit, here's a playlist with songs that capitalize on that feeling:

First things first, Spotify didn't have Track 1 of my mix—the song I heard on shuffle last night, inspiring this entire playlist:
"You're Free" by Yomanda
"You're Free" by Yomanda
1. "New Version of You" by J.J. Abrams & Andrew Jarecki Any Felicity fans reading this blog will recognize this tune as the newer theme song of the show. It's appropriate to listen to when you're making changes in your life. 2. "Take This Job and Shove It" by Johnny Paycheck I don't feel this way about leaving my job, but it's still a fun song to listen to as you get ready to walk out of the office for the last time. 3. "Beautiful Goodbye" by Jennifer Hanson "It's a strange kind of high, a beautiful goodbye." So true. Saying goodbye sometimes feels amazing. 4. "Live Your Live" by T.I. feat. Rihanna Just because. I'm living my life, y'all. 5. "Good Feeling" by Flo Rida While this is a feel-good song to begin with, it made me extremely happy this morning, knowing my time here is almost over. | |
6. "Something Good Can Work" by Two Door Cinema Club
An oldie full of fun and positivity. And it's true: "Girl you gonna show the world that something good can work and it can work for you. And you know that it will."
7. "The Great Escape" by Boys Like Girls
Because, really, this adventure is an escape.
8. "Best Day of My Life" by American Authors
I've seen this song featured on a lot of wedding videos lately—and it even plays on a Disney commercial. The notion of having a 'best day' probably seems more fitting with those events, but the day where I make a positive change and take a step in a new direction of my life will feel like my best day.
9. "Life Is A Highway" by Tom Cochrane
10. "Good Riddance [Time Of Your Life]" by Green Day
This is for that moment when you feel a tiny twinge of sadness about "the end."
...but then you remember all you have to look forward to, so you switch the song to:
